The idea that we will one day we going to one place or another on roads that are full of self-driving cars may seem a little bit crazy. But even if you think the idea of self-driving cars is a little too close to a sci-fi fantasy, you should know that the biggest companies in the world have made a lot of progress towards such a goal. They have taken real steps towards ensuring that you are going to see a fleet of self-driving cars on the road during your lifetime.
The only question is whether these cars are already ready, or whether they need some time before they are in the right shape to interact with humans who are still driving their own cars. If you have read about self-driving cars, you will know that they are generally considered very reliable. However, there have been a few incidents where a self-driving or automated car was involved in a car accident. And such accidents do not help change the general perception of self-driving cars, which is fairly negative.
People are always going to assume the worst from self-driving cars. Even if we hear about 100 accidents each day in the United States that involved people who were driving, no one would bat an eyelid. In fact, they would say it is a normal aspect of being on the road. But the moment a self-driving car is involved in an accident, we have so much hysteria about whether these cars are ready to hit the open road with other drivers and self-driving cars. And I think it is important to note that self-driving cars will never be perfect, but they can most definitely help out our current car situation.
One of the biggest issues we have right now is that everyone has a car, whether they need one or not. If self-driving cars became more popular, we would have companies such as Uber and Lyft ensuring that people were being driven about in taxis that were self-driven. Not only would it mean that no one would have to work as a driver, but it also means that no one would have to worry about owning a car of their own. They could merely rent or order one whenever they needed to go somewhere, and they would have a completely seamless experience.
But now we must go back to the original question. Are self-driving cars ready for us to accept them? Right now, the answer is no. Even though companies such as Tesla have been working really hard to ensure their self-driving cars are the pick of the bunch, there are issues and other matters with these cars that would make the general public really uncomfortable if they became a mainstay on the road. But we are fighting against the tide with such technology, because eventually we are going to have self-driving cars on the road in all parts of the world, and there is really nothing we can do to stop it!
